- 1 lb (454g) lean ground beef
- 16 oz (454g) shelf-stable potato gnocchi
- 1 medium yellow onion, diced
- 4–5 cloves garlic, minced
- 1 tablespoon olive oil
- 1 tablespoon Italian seasoning
- 1/2 teaspoon crushed red pepper flakes (optional)
- 1 cup beef broth
- 1 cup heavy cream
- 1/4 cup tomato paste
- 1/2 cup freshly grated Parmesan cheese
- Salt and freshly ground black pepper to taste
- Fresh basil or parsley for garnish
Instructions
- Dice onion and mince garlic. Measure out remaining ingredients.
- Heat olive oil in a large skillet over medium-high heat. Add diced onion and cook 2-3 minutes until translucent.
- Add minced garlic and cook for 30 seconds until fragrant.
- Add ground beef, breaking it apart. Season with salt, pepper, and Italian seasoning. Cook 5-7 minutes until browned. Drain excess fat if needed.
- Add tomato paste, stir for 1 minute to coat the beef.
- Pour in beef broth, scrape bottom of pan to release flavor.
- Add uncooked gnocchi and stir to coat.
- Pour in heavy cream, stir, bring to a gentle simmer, and cook 3-4 minutes until gnocchi is tender and sauce thickens.
- Reduce heat to low. Stir in Parmesan until melted. Adjust seasoning with salt, pepper, and red pepper flakes.
- Remove from heat and let stand 2 minutes to thicken. Garnish with fresh herbs before serving.
Notes
For best results, don’t overcook the gnocchi. Use 85/15 ground beef for added richness, and allow the dish to rest before serving for a thicker sauce.
