- 1 tbsp Butter
- 2 large sweet onions, thinly sliced
- 1 lb lean ground beef
- 2 cloves garlic, minced
- 1 tsp fresh thyme, chopped
- 1 cup beef broth
- 1 tbsp Worcestershire sauce
- Salt and pepper to taste
- 6 slices Provolone or Gruyรจre cheese
- 6 brioche or potato buns
Instructions
- Melt butter in a large skillet over medium-low heat.
- Cook onions for 20โ25 minutes until deeply caramelized.
- Add ground beef, breaking it up, and cook until browned. Drain excess fat.
- Stir in garlic and thyme; cook for 1 minute.
- Add beef broth and Worcestershire sauce; simmer 10โ15 minutes until thickened.
- Toast buns and place beef mixture on bottom halves.
- Top with cheese and broil until melted and bubbly.
Notes
For a leaner version, use ground turkey or chicken. Substitute cheese with Swiss or white cheddar. Use dried thyme if fresh isnโt available.
